I strive to make in-depth reporting projects that complicate one’s thinking, while building understanding and insight. My books include Palestine Speaks: Narratives of Life Under Occupation (McSweeney's, 2014), and Six By Ten: Stories from Solitary (Haymarket, 2018). My video work includes this piece from a former undercover CIA officer, as well as hosted pieces dealing with homelessness and prisons.

I volunteer as an instructor at San Quentin State Prison. Previously I earned journalism degrees from the UC-Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and the University of Colorado-Boulder. My work has appeared in The Best American Nonrequired Reading, Harper's, Rolling Stone, Pacific Standard, Lucky Peach, McSweeney's, Atlas Obscura, Guernica, and AJ+, among other places. Some links are on my video and print pages.
