I’m an award-winning writer, editor, interviewer, photographer, video producer, bartender, and creative project manager with a knack for connecting with people from diverse backgrounds.
I’ve spent years exploring the potential of regional media as executive editor and creative director at San Diego Magazine, worked as a writer and producer at Al Jazeera’s digital channel, and spent nearly a decade researching and writing two books—Palestine Speaks: Narratives of Life Under Occupation (McSweeney's/Verso, 2014), and Six By Ten: Stories from Solitary (Haymarket, 2018).
My work often focuses on the experiences of marginalized people. I also enjoy writing about plants, people, whales, art, architecture, culture, the U.S. Constitution, and anything else that fascinates.
My work has appeared in The Best American series, Harper's, Rolling Stone, AJ+, Pacific Standard, Lucky Peach, McSweeney's, Buzzfeed, Atlas Obscura, and Guernica, among other publications. My cocktails have appeared in lots of cool bars and in the hands of lots of cool people.
